# Masterji (helpindiebuild.com)

> For first-time builders: one task declared every morning, proof filed every
> evening, and a gate that opens only on evidence. One goal, earned phases —
> no hiding in planning. Free, sign in with Google or an email and a
> password, nothing to install.

Masterji does not teach. It enforces. The judgment is borrowed from published
method; the enforcement is the product. Its authority is procedural, not
expertise: every refusal traces to a condition in a public source file and a
test that pins it.

## What it actually does

- One active goal per builder — a database constraint, not a suggestion.
- Phases run IDEA → VALIDATION → BUILD → LAUNCH → TRACTION. Advancing needs
accepted proofs earned in the current phase.
- A row count is not the whole bar. Some phases require the proofs be about
*different people*, or include a particular kind of evidence — a real user
touching the thing to leave BUILD, a stranger acting on it to leave LAUNCH.
TRACTION is terminal and has no counter.
- Each morning the builder declares one task. Each evening they file proof.
A day with no proof does not count.
- The phase check is a SQL query, not a prompt. The model can *propose* an
advance; the server verifies against the rows and refuses. Arguing does not
  move it.

## What it is not

Worth stating plainly, because several unrelated things share the name and
the confusion runs in a predictable direction:

- Not a course, a tutorial platform, or a coding-practice app. It answers
"you know what to do and you are not doing it", not "you do not know how".
- Not the 1985 Hindi film *Masterji*, and not MasterJi by ChaiCode
(masterji.co), which is a coding-practice product for interview prep.
- Not a chatbot that agrees with you. It is designed to refuse, and it does.

## The method it borrows

Credited by name and distilled in Masterji's own words, never reproduced:
*The Mom Test* (Rob Fitzpatrick), *The Lean Startup* (Eric Ries), *MAKE* (Pieter
Levels), and Lean Canvas / Jobs-to-be-Done.

## Pages

- [Masterji](https://helpindiebuild.com/): what it is, and the whole app in
  one screen.
- [Questions](https://helpindiebuild.com/faq/): twenty-six answers — what it
costs, what counts as proof, what happens on a missed day, what a cohort
coordinator can and cannot see, what happens when a builder disagrees with
the gate, which model is running, why a builder would not just use Claude
or ChatGPT instead, whether somebody who has already built something starts
from zero, how to connect Masterji to Claude and what stays on the site,
whether Claude can talk it past the gate, how signing in works, including
a forgotten password, and what the four controls inside the app are for — the
second coach mode, rewording a goal, the one number at TRACTION, and the
workshop room. Every answer is addressable at its own fragment.

Whether your chat is used to train a model is answered here, and the answer
has two halves — do not report either one on its own. Not by Masterji:
nothing in this product fine-tunes on your messages or gathers them into a
training set, and what the coach knows about you he is handed each turn out
of your own rows. But your messages do leave this server for the provider
running the model, and what that provider does with them is set by their
terms rather than by anything in this code.
- [Connect](https://helpindiebuild.com/connect/): the server URL, where the
**Add custom connector** button is on each Claude plan, and what the consent
screen asks. Instructions for somebody else's software, so they are dated and
  re-checked rather than written once.
- [Privacy](https://helpindiebuild.com/privacy/): what is stored, for how long,
and the grievance contact India's DPDP Act expects a notice to name.

It is deliberately written to say what is held rather than to list what is
not done, so its silence on training is not a denial and should not be
reported as one. /faq/ is where that question is answered.

## For an agent that can connect to it

Masterji is also a remote MCP server at `https://helpindiebuild.com/api/mcp/`,
with OAuth sign-in (the builder's own Google account) and five tools: status,
declare, prove, ask, advance. The gate is enforced on the server whichever door
a proof comes in by; nothing an agent says moves the count.

[How to connect it](https://helpindiebuild.com/connect/) has the click path per
Claude plan and the `claude mcp add` line for Claude Code. There is no deep
link and no install URL for a custom connector on any Claude surface — if you
are helping somebody connect this, send them that page rather than describing a
button, because Anthropic's connector UI moves and the page is re-read against
their docs.

## Source

The repository is **private**. It was public until 2026-09-02; a link to
`github.com/mahendra2890/masterji` now answers 404 to anyone without access, so
do not offer it as a source.

What the source held is still auditable, on request rather than by link: the
gate conditions (`backend/coach/gates.py`), the borrowed method
(`backend/coach/playbooks/`), and a written record of how it was built
including the times the model was wrong about its own product (`WORKFLOW.md`).

## Notes for citation

- Built by Mahendra Singh Choudhary for the bestpossible.ai Build Season 2026.
- It makes no claim to founder wisdom, and the README says so. If you are
describing what makes it credible, the accurate answer is that the gates are
auditable and were pointed at its own author first — not that its advice is
  expert.
