What's changed in Masterji

If you hadn't touched masterji for a quarter of an hour, connecting Claude or opening Idea Board treated you as a stranger. You'd see masterji's sign-in popup flash up before it noticed you were still signed in and sent you on. Now masterji picks your session back up first, so you go straight through.

Idea Board also stopped waiting on its own sign-in card. If you're signed in to masterji, opening the board takes you to your wall. If you aren't, you get the card as before. Signing out of the board keeps you out of it until you sign in to it again.

When you close a goal, Masterji's last word on it used to sometimes ask you for more on the one you just closed — a goal that can't be written to again. He now points forward instead: at what the next goal should do differently, never a question about the one that's done.

Every page — including the sign-in form on the home page — used to answer with nothing but one security header. Another site could have loaded it inside a frame of their own, which is the setup clickjacking needs.

The site now refuses to be framed, tells the browser not to guess a file's type from its content, sends a stricter Referrer-Policy, and turns off a few browser permissions (camera, microphone, location, payments, USB) it never asked for in the first place. The API's own "stay on HTTPS" header also now lasts as long as the site's does, instead of quietly cutting it short on the first API call a page made.

Finishing signup or resetting a password used to ask for a new password without ever saying whose account it belonged to — awkward with more than one address, and it also meant Chrome and 1Password had no username to pair the new password with, so the next sign-in didn't autofill. Both pages now show the address before you type anything, and save the password against it.

/changelog/ was quietly shipping its own text twice: once as the page you read, and again inside the data React uses to make the page interactive, which grows every time an entry is added and had reached 700KB. The page now loads the newest ten days of entries and fetches the rest only if you press "Show earlier entries" — everything is still there, still in the order it was written, and the full record is still one address away for anything reading it as markdown instead of a page.

When Masterji notes part of tonight's proof, he now says which parts he wrote down, and he no longer calls a restated goal a draft.

Pasting a blog post, the FAQ or any page other than the homepage into X showed the homepage's title and tagline instead of the page's own — the card looked right everywhere else a link gets shared, just not there. Every page now carries its own title and description on X too.

After Bring it in, each piece of prior work you handed over now shows right there whether it counted and, if not, why — no more digging through the record and opening a day to read the reason. And the result no longer lingers under later turns of the conversation; it shows only until the next thing happens.

When a phase opens, the proofs you carried over are now named in the unlock note itself, instead of a second card that showed up and then vanished. And if today's task was declared in the phase that just closed, the card says so and the next button reads "Declare another task for [phase]" — naming the phase your next task counts toward.

The "What IDEA will ask you for" card could show a question as answered when Masterji filled it in himself rather than from anything you wrote — on one prod turn, two ticks appeared after a single "I don't have an idea yet." A part now only ticks when it holds words you actually typed. A part he invents is dropped instead of shown, so a missed tick is possible but a false one is not.

Screen readers now hear "accepted" or "pushed back" on a record's ✓/✗, and the "What's changed" popup names itself by its own heading instead of a separate label. The account screen's session button now says "End session" instead of just "end". A goal title ending in its own full stop no longer gets a second one in the welcome message. And the dashboard header no longer forces a sideways scrollbar on a laptop-width screen.

If your connection dropped while Masterji was answering, what he'd said so far is kept, and a note tells you to send again if he'd said nothing. In the workshop, a turn that dropped before he'd said a word costs nothing.

On a phone, your account screen (password and signed-in browsers) is now one tap from the dashboard, and sign out lives there.

The workshop holds at most three ideas, and nothing could ever take one off — not an idea he parked that you never meant, not the same idea written down twice in different words. Each parked idea now has a × beside it. Only you can use it: Masterji still can't park a fourth, and still can't remove one. Taking one off doesn't cost a turn.

When Masterji's reply comes with suggested questions under it, the chat now opens at the start of what he said instead of partway through.

On a laptop, Masterji's conversation and the box you type to him in sat closer to the edges of his column than they were meant to, 16px where the design says 28px, and a thin rule sat above the box that the design doesn't have. The conversation now lines up with the column's heading, and the box has room around it. The same goes for the room you think an idea through in before your first goal. Nothing moves on a phone, and nothing he says or does changed.

Masterji used to guess. A meetup on 5 October got called "this Thursday" even though the 5th is a Monday — nothing in his state told him what day it was. He's now handed your own date and weekday every turn, so a "tomorrow" or "this Thursday" from him means the day you'd mean by it.

Tell Masterji what you already did before you started — a problem you wrote up, people you talked to — and sometimes the only thing on screen was a WHAT YOU'VE ALREADY DONE card, with nothing under your own message. He now always says something on that turn: the list is on the card, nothing counts yet, and pressing Bring it in is what gets each one read. He's also told which of your entries he has already read and pushed back, so he stops offering them again as if they were new.

Once in a while the coach's reply started with something like park_candidate to=functions.park_candidate json {"one_liner": ...} before the actual coaching sentence. That was the model composing a tool call as text instead of using one — it's now caught and removed, so you only ever see the sentence that was meant for you.

Asking Masterji what to put in the Today I will box, with nothing declared yet, used to come back as "that reads like tonight's proof" — the goal handed back as a drafted problem statement, and the declare box left empty. He now names one task sized to today and asks whether that's it.

The workshop gives you twenty turns, and until now it counted every message you sent — including the ones Masterji never answered. When the model fell over, or came back with nothing you could read, the meter still went down, so a room of twenty could quietly become seventeen. A turn is now only spent when he actually answers it. If he doesn't, the conversation says so and the meter stays where it was: when something went wrong on his end there's a button to send it again, and when he simply had nothing new to add, it asks you to put it another way. Your first message also stops being a chance for him to write things down for you: until you've told him something of your own there is nothing to park and nothing to fill in, so he just asks. And an answer like "none" or "not sure" is never parked as one of your three ideas. What hasn't changed: twenty answered turns is still the whole room, and the commit box is there the entire time.

When Masterji refuses to open the next phase, he now says why once, under the phase strip, instead of repeating the same paragraph in the chat.

Masterji occasionally wrote the same reply twice in a row, with nothing between the two copies. That doubled text is now collapsed to one copy before it's saved, so the conversation reads the way he meant to say it.

The page that asks for your goal was built differently from everything after it: a big headline, a paragraph, a box, and Masterji in a card underneath that rearranged the page into two columns the moment you spoke to him. It now looks like the rest of Masterji. The header is the same one — on a laptop or a wider screen, your name in it is the way into your account, same as everywhere else. The question is one line — One goal: — with Commit under it, and Commit stays greyed out until you have typed something. A long goal now wraps onto the next line or two instead of scrolling out of sight. Masterji sits in his own column on the right, or behind the handle at the foot of a phone, with the room's turn count showing before you say anything. The four things IDEA will ask you for stay pinned above the conversation now, filling in as you answer them, instead of scrolling out of view partway through a longer talk. Once you've closed a goal, the room's box invites you to talk it through instead of asking as if you had nothing yet. The room itself is unchanged: the same turns, parked ideas still only fill the box, and nothing in it touches your record. What you're agreeing to when you commit is now answered on the Questions page.

Signing up with an email and a password has worked since yesterday, but the button on the front page, the blog and the changelog still read Start free with Google, and the Questions page still said any Google account works. They now say Start free, and the button opens the same sign-in as before, with both ways in on it. The tour's last line and the short summary of the site written for AI assistants say the same. Separately, the Questions page said leaving was a button, not a request. There is no delete button — leaving is done by asking, at the address on What we store — and the answer now says so, and what erasing an account does is unchanged.

When Claude asked you to sign in before connecting, it sent you straight to Google — so an account you made with an email and a password had no way in from there. It now opens Masterji's own sign-in, with both ways in on it, already open, and signing in either way takes you back to the same screen that asks whether to allow the connection. If you were still signed in to Masterji but it had been a while, you go straight on to that screen instead of landing on your dashboard. The connect instructions and the Questions page now say either way works.

When Masterji pushed a proof back, the box you wrote it in was emptied — so "send that and it lands tonight" meant typing the whole thing again from memory. Your words now stay in the box after a push-back, ready to add the missing part to; the box empties only once a proof is accepted. The push-back still sits above it on the record, and a second try is still read against the first. The morning's Today I will box was a single line, so a longer task scrolled sideways and you saw only its last two words while typing. It now wraps like the goal box does, and Enter still declares. Both boxes, once what you write runs past a line or so, move onto their own row under the question at a smaller size, so a full-length goal or task shows all of itself without scrolling inside the box, on a laptop or a phone.

Masterji had never sent an email. It can now, and it sends exactly one kind: a link that proves the address on your account is yours. The link works once and stops working after a day, and the address it confirms is the one already on your account — nothing else about your account moves. If you signed in with Google, your address was confirmed at that door and there is nothing here for you to do. What changed on your side is that signing in now also checks the account it is about to open has a confirmed address on it.

Sign up with just an email: follow the link, and choose a password there. From then on, sign in with your email and password, or keep using Google — that door is unchanged. Already have a Google-only account? Set a password for it from your account screen, press your username in the corner.

Forgot password? on the sign-in screen mails a link to your confirmed address, and choosing a new one there signs you out everywhere else. Your account screen lists every browser you're signed into.

A rule meant for the turns where you type "?" or "huh" was on every turn, and Masterji sometimes read a real short answer — "yes", "Ramesh", "the hostel one" — as confusion and just restated his question instead of taking it. That rule now goes out only on the turns that actually look like confusion. The alarm behind the scenes also stopped firing on ordinary lines like "paste the exact task you agreed with them". Nothing changes in how he talks to you the rest of the time.

The screen that asks for your next goal was listing every idea you have ever closed underneath it — eleven ideas, eleven rows, on a page whose whole job is what happens now. It shows the five most recent, with "Show all" under them when there are more. Nothing is gone: every closed idea is still one tap from its full record, and the list opens again the moment you ask for it.

The headline used to open on the refusal: the startup app that tells you no, and why. That was one move the software makes, read as a feature, and it left out the half you spend the day with. It now says both, in the order they happen: Masterji finds your smallest next step, and checks it got done. No category word in front of it — the screen drawn under the headline shows what kind of thing this is. The tab title and the share card say the same sentence. Nothing about the coach or the gate moved.

When you said a sharper version of your goal, a launch day, or what a phase was for, Masterji would answer "it's in the box — press Save" and there was no box: those three cards came off the screen and the server kept drafting into them. He no longer writes any of the three down, and no longer says he has. Rewording your goal, setting a launch day and reading your phases back all still work the same way — from the controls on the card, where they always were.

Pressing sign out used to clear the two cookies in your browser and nothing else — the credentials themselves stayed valid, so anything that had already copied them kept working for up to a week. Each sign-in is now a record on our side, and signing out ends that one immediately — a different device stays signed in until its own sign-out or its own expiry. Nothing about signing in changed and you have not been signed out by this. A session you keep using renews itself for up to ninety days and then asks you to sign in again.

Once in a while, a line of {"text": ...} would flash on screen for a moment before Masterji's actual reply appeared — and when that happened while he was writing down tonight's proof or what you'd already done, the draft could go missing: he'd then say the box was filled when it was empty. It no longer shows until it's real prose — unless the connection itself breaks partway through, in which case what's on screen matches what got saved, same as any other cut-off reply — and a draft written that way lands in the box it was meant for instead of being thrown away with the glitch.

Masterji kept telling you to file things "under Today", and nothing on the screen has been called Today since the card lost its label and the phone tab became the coach sheet. He now names the box you're actually looking at: Today I will in the morning, Tonight I did at night, and Declare it when the task is written and waiting for your press. Same drafts, same presses — he just stopped sending you to a place that isn't there.

He used to be able to raise earlier work — a write-up, a conversation, a first build — on every early turn, because "ask once" was only ever something he tried to remember. He now asks once and then gets on with the first evening. If you do remember something later, telling him still puts it on the card.

One rule told Masterji to write plain sentences with no markdown, and six lines later the same instruction sheet told him to answer the evening's verdict in strict JSON. If he followed the first one, the server could not read the answer and your proof would come back "I couldn't read it just now", with nothing banked. The rule about plain sentences now applies to the words he writes to you, not to the shape of the answer he sends the server. Nothing changes in how he talks to you.

Closing a goal used to bring back "I don't have an idea yet." and the other first-timer starter questions every time you landed in the room after, even on your fifth goal. If you have closed one before, the room now skips straight to the box — the same courtesy the example goals above it already got.

The evening box opens holding the proof Masterji drafted from your day. Two things were wrong with that. If he had already sent tonight's work back, filing his draft untouched banked it without him reading a word — the one evening that most needed a second look got none. And pressing Enter in the link or the number field filed the whole day, when you only meant to confirm what you had typed. Now a night that has been pushed back is always judged again, with every refusal in front of him, and "File it" is the only thing that files.

The "What's new" popup listed every shipped change — two or three a day, well past a hundred — in a product that asks for two minutes of yours. It now shows one short read-back per week: three to five points on what changed for you, written once the week is over, so the week you are in is not in it yet. The dot lights once a week, not on every merge. Every entry is still on /changelog/, dated, as before.

The landing page used to restate the idea-to-user arc in a numbered list, then show a second coach refusal in a quote, before closing. Both repeated a beat the app screenshot already made higher up the page. They're gone; the page now goes straight from that screenshot to the close.

The ruled box under "Tonight I did" used to hold its full height even empty, showing rules with nothing written on them. It opens at one line now and grows with what you write, capped at the same height as before — the caret is always on the rule you're actually typing on.

The box under "Tonight I did" carried one rule at the very bottom, well past where a fresh cursor sits. It's ruled paper now, a line under every row, so wherever you're writing, you're writing on one.

A live review found most workshop turns landed as a silent receipt or nothing at all — writing a candidate down, sketching the idea's bar, or naming a title had quietly become a stand-in for actually answering. The chat side of Masterji has said "answer them in the same breath" for a while; the workshop's three tools never got the same line. They do now.

"Not sure about this one?" and "close this goal" sit on the title's own line now, smaller and quieter than before. A long title still pushes them to their own line underneath, so nothing gets crushed.

Masterji's sharper wording for today's task no longer sits in its own card; it is one quiet press inside the reword box, and your own words stay the default.

The last week of days, the one number over time and your closed ideas used to sit in two cards under the day's work. They open from one link now — "The record", at the foot of the page. Nothing is gone, and "Show all" still hands back every day the record holds.

"Not sure about this one?" used to drop the reconsidering room into the goal card and push everything under it down the page. It opens over the page now, the same way the record does, and closes with the ×, Escape, or a tap outside it.

The day opens on one line: Today I will ___, and one button. The task Masterji heard is already in the box instead of sitting in a card above it.

Reword, and the two ways out of a goal, sit under its name at the top of the screen instead of on a card below.

Above the fold, the home page used to argue you into the button with two paragraphs about talking, building and shipping. Those are gone. What is left is one line, one button, and the screen you land on right after, drawn small: your goal, the phase you are in, and today's one question. Everything below the fold is unchanged.

Tonight's box is no longer empty: what Masterji took down from the day's conversation is in it, editable, with one button. A link and a screenshot are still there, one tap behind their own words.

A builder had a task genuinely declared and Masterji told him, five times in one evening, that nothing was on the record — "you have to declare today's task first," "I can't check your card from here" — while the fact that it was declared sat in his own instructions the whole time. He now has a standing rule that the state block above the conversation is fact, not a claim to re-argue, plus a server-side check that flags it if he ever contradicts it again. A second fix, for the turn that caused this one: a short, confused reply like "what?" used to get treated as though it were an answer, sometimes drafting a task or a title out of nothing the builder had actually said. He is now told to ask again in plainer words instead.

On a phone, tapping the day behind the coach sheet now closes it, the same way it would elsewhere. It used to take a second press on the handle or Escape.

The standing "reword" link is gone. Tap the goal's own title to change its wording — the same pattern most apps use for renaming the thing you're looking at — and the two ways out of a goal now sit right under it instead of a line's worth of space away.

On a laptop the conversation sits beside the day now, in a quiet column, instead of taking half the screen behind a border. On a phone it is a sheet you pull up from the foot of the screen, with his last line on the handle and a count of what arrived while it was down. The question stays where it was, full size, behind it.

On a laptop or wider, the hairline between your goal and Masterji's panel is now a handle: drag it to give either side more room. It remembers what you set, and double-clicking it puts it back.

"Not sure about this one?" and "close this goal" sit at the top of the goal strip. The box either one opens could render below the bottom of the screen with nothing to say a press did anything. Pressing either now brings that box into view if it isn't already.

Twice, on one goal, Masterji's reply opened with a raw block of code — the internal shape of a note he was writing down — before the actual sentence. Replies are now checked for exactly that shape and cleaned before they're saved, so the record only holds what he meant to say. This doesn't yet catch the rare case where it briefly flashes on screen as it streams in — that's tracked separately.

The day's screen carried a sentence beside almost every control saying what it was for. Those are gone. The phase ladder, the count and the next rung are one line above the day's work now, instead of a label, a fact row and a meter stacked under the goal. Nothing about the gate moved: what it takes to earn a phase is unchanged, and a no still reads as it did, in red and only while it is still an answer, but it sits under the phase line now, with the press it answers, instead of under today's task.

The page a stranger lands on had five sections arguing for the product and now has two. Gone: the section naming the problem, the section showing a still frame of the app, both of the small asides under the headline, and the link down to the phase rules. What is left is what you do — one task set for tomorrow, a check on today — and why the coach can hold you to it. The headline changed with them: it used to say Masterji makes you talk to strangers, which several readers took to mean this was a place where strangers were waiting. They are not, and it never said that on purpose.

This morning's rewrite of the front page said Masterji "sets tomorrow's task". He does not, and never has: you name your own task each morning and he accepts it or refuses it, which is what the three steps further down the same page had been saying correctly the whole time. The headline now says he vets it. The same wrong sentence had also outlived two rewrites in the description Google shows and in the card that appears when anyone pastes a Masterji link into WhatsApp or Slack, where it was drawn into the image itself. Both now match the page.

Four small things on the page a stranger lands on, all reported as "this looks weird" and all real. The two paragraphs under the headline ran to two different widths and read as two columns that had missed each other; they now share one. The closing line broke as "One goal, declared every" over a lone "morning." and now breaks in two even halves. The small label above each section head sat a few pixels below the ruled line that opens the list beside it, so the two columns did not start together; they do now. And a dash was free to start a line on its own in two places; it stays with the word before it.

The headline used to describe the daily loop — a judgement on tomorrow's task, a check on today's. It now names the refusal directly: the startup app that tells you no, and why. Three readers this year, in different words, said the same thing about the page under it: it read as a way to talk to people, not the whole idea. One of them signed up, met the gate on a real errand rather than a startup idea, and said the page felt like two products merged unsuccessfully. The two body sections changed with it — one now shows a real refusal from a real session instead of arguing for the gate in the abstract, and the other says what the reader ends up with across the whole arc: a conversation, something shipped, a stranger who comes back. Nothing about the gate itself moved.

When you declare a task you can say when tonight's proof will land. Until now that hour was only a note — Masterji knew it, and the evening nudge still arrived at the same generic hour for everybody.

Now the nudge comes at your hour. Say 21:00 and nothing buzzes at five. Say 14:00 and it reaches you at two. Skip the hour and nothing changes from before.

It still moves no gate. A proof filed at 23:40 counts exactly as it always did — the hour changes when you are asked, never whether it counted.

The message when you lock a goal told you to declare today's task under Today. The box for it is now in that same conversation, a few inches below the message. It now points at the box that is actually there.

Filing tonight's proof is still under Today, and that half of the sentence is unchanged.

Today's box used to sit under the goal card on a laptop, below the phase ladder, the counters, the hint and the gate. On a phone it was already first. Now it is first everywhere, and it is the first thing your keyboard reaches as well as the first thing you see.

Two things you may have seen on the goal card and in chat. The card could offer a sharper wording that was not a sentence at all but a note Masterji had written to himself while he was still asking you the question, with a Use this button under it — press it and your goal was named after something you never said. Any suggestion with brackets in it is now refused before it reaches the card, so what sits in that box is a sentence or nothing. And Masterji had started typing asterisks around words he wanted to stress, which nothing here turns into bold, so they arrived on your screen as asterisks. He writes plain sentences again.

He still writes today's task out of your conversation, and still writes tonight's proof. What he no longer does is offer a sharper title, a phrase for what the phase is for, and a launch day, each as its own card with its own button. Rewording your goal still works the way it did — the link is still there, and tapping it opens the box on the words already in it.

The goal card carried four counters: days in the phase, your current run, your best run, and the days you have worked across every idea. Two are gone. Your best run is still told to you, in a sentence, on the morning after a broken one — which is the morning it means something. Days in the phase and the run you are on stay where they were.

Also gone: the second line describing your idea under its own title, and the question about what the phase will have produced. Neither was ever read by the gate.

On a phone the dashboard and the conversation take turns, and the app opens on the conversation. Until now you could not declare from there on a fresh morning — Masterji had to write you a draft first, which meant talking to him first, and the line under the box told you to go to Today and do it.

The box is now in the conversation too, at the bottom of the log. Same task, same button, same record — type it and press Declare it without switching anywhere. Today still has it, and the two stay in step: whatever you type in one is what the other shows.

The hour picker no longer sits beside Declare it. Nothing ever happened at the hour you chose, and choosing one was a twenty-five option question asked before you had written the task. You can still name an hour — reword today's task and it is there, next to the words it is about.

The Today tab also stops showing a dot every morning. It kept a dot lit from the moment the day opened, which meant it was on before anything had happened. Drafts and running notes still say so.

For part of today every message to Masterji came back "Masterji lost the thread — try again", in both the chat beside your goal and the room you think an idea through in. Nothing you sent was lost and nothing you had already banked was touched: he could not get a word out, so he said the one sentence he keeps for exactly that. He is answering again. The turns that room charged you for the silence are the one thing this does not give back, and if the meter on your workshop reads short of where you think it should, that is why.
